Holiday Wine

Many people have trouble selecting wines that pair well with traditional holiday meals, especially turkey, which has a tendency to make delicious red and white wines taste like aluminum foil. Fruity Beaujoliais are a great solution, but consider asking your wine merchant to order some Sparkling Shiraz for you. It seems strange, a deep rich sparkling red wine, but it's fun and tasty and goes good with hams, roasts and even turkeys and other birds.

Steak House Movie Night

Coming up Saturday, December 5th, the next installment of our Film Dinner series. We'll be...









...serving a Steak House Special: Seared Hanger Steak, Marinated Tomato and Onions, Mashed Potatoes and Hollandaise Sauce. Caesar Salad for startes, and a couple dessert choice. The movie is free, and dinner is 25 dollars.

HI Everyone,

We've got a busy weekend coming up, in part to make up for the next weekend when we will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. But first, I'd like to thank everyone who came out last Saturday for Big Night. It was a great success and lots of fun. In three weeks time we'll be showing another film and serving another delicious dinner along with it. We're going to do a noir film next, highlighting one of the great ironies of typcasting in Hollywood history. Richard Widmark was famous for his evil snicker and his vicious mistreatment of wheelchair-bound ladies, but in reality he was known as a generous and decent family man and a really sweet person. One of my favorite Widmark movies is Pickup on South Street, about a cynical pick pocket who gets mixed up in a Cold War espionage case on account of all he did was pick the wrong pocket... like it's getting hard for a guy to make an honest living anymore...

This weekend I'll be preparing a French Onion soup with Grilled French Bread and Taleggio Cheese Croutons. Also on the menu we've got spicy pork spring rolls with orange-garlic glaze, fresh local baby spinach from Tom Takacs farm, Osso Bucco from Nectar Hills, and Grilled Tuna Loin. But our star seller these days is the Rigatoni with Chicken and Almonds and Caramelized Onions in White Wine and Cream. What can I say, people enjoy eating it.

Music Update: Live this Sunday at 8:30: The Sifters, a wooly band of acoustic country rockers from the Cooperstown and Cherry Valley area. This is a reunion of sorts, especially commisioned for The Rose and Kettle.

Dear Rose and Kettle Regulars,

This Saturday at 8 we show Big Night in the Green Dining Room. Seating is limited, so call us and reserve your table. Dinner will include a choice of Mushroom Risotto or Spaghetti and Meatballs, a salad to start and a choice of dessert. 20 bucks a head. Sunday Evening a 8:30 our music series continues with a live acoustic performance from local artist Mary Doherty. Mary grew up in and around Cherry Valley and has been playing finger-picked acoustic folk for years. I'm expecting a good turn-out for this one, so come early and grab a burger or something from our Bar Menu.

I know  many of my messages lately have given short shrift to the dinner menu, so let me cap this note off with a brief run-down of some of our dinner dishes this weekend:

-Nectar Hills Farm Osso Bucco with Parmesan Risotto, Creamy Reduction and Gremolata
awesomeness on a plate

-Slow-Cooked #1 Tuna with Anchovies, Capers and Lemon
trendy-trendy-trendy is the sushi tuna seared nearly raw with yada-yada-yada, and don't get me wrong, we love that stuff too. But try this classic Mediterranean dish where the fish is slow-poached in extra virgin olive oil. and what, you may ask, is #1 Tuna? that's one of the choices the purveyors give me when I call to see what kind of fish they've got this week. other options would be #2, #3, etc... #1 is just, that... the best.

-Braised Pork Shoulder Roast Cooked with Chillies, Cilantro, Ginger Ale and Cloves
powerful flavors combined for a delicate balance

-Cold Weather Stew
Takacs Farm root vegetables in a roasted chicken broth

-Red Velvet Cupcakes, Tiramisu, and Apple Tarts a la Mode have all be added to our dessert list in the last few months by Dana's sister Robin, who is our Pastry Chef

Dear Friends,

       
       A couple brief updates:

       Now you can enjoy delicious Rose and Kettle meals at home. Check out our new To-Go menu posted online. I designed this menu to be recession-proof, if you know what I mean. You can download a PDF of the menu as well. We are open Friday through Sunday at 5--and the To-Go menu is available at these times as well. Check it out.

       This Sunday the 8th, our music series continues with an Open Mic Music and Poetry Fest hosted by Bob Millner. Bring that diary, that scroll, that life-long work-in-progress and use our microphone to pronounce it to the universe.

Next Saturday the 14th of November we bring you our new special event: MOVIE NIGHT. You know what a movie is, and you know what a night is, but do you know what a "MOVIE NIGHT" is?

Good guess. It's a night where you watch a movie, and watch it with your friends, and eat a delicious 3-course dinner while you do all that, and it happens at The Rose and Kettle. On Saturday, November 14th we will be showing Big Night with a big Italian dinner in the Green Dining Room. We will be serving risotto, but we wont be serving it with a side of pasta. Call now, because reservations are limited. Movie and dinner will cost you 20 dollars. (The first course will be a fresh local green salad with lemon oil and croutons, and dessert will be a choice of either a red velvet cupcake or tiramisu.)

The Internet Movie Data Base describes Big Night as such: "A failing Italian restaurant run by two brothers gambles on one special night to try to save the business."
Actually, I don't really like this movie at all...

The Rose and Kettle To-Go


The Rose and Kettle now has a to-go-menu (and a printable version).

Go print one up and this Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night you can come in, pick up your food, and go home and enjoy the R&K in the comfort of your own home.

Sorry, there's no take-home version of the R&K Sunday night music series, but you can have a drink and listen while you wait for your take out order!
